Practice under time and learn from the misses
Reviewed November 3, 2026 · about 20 minutes · original P.A.Y. learning
What you will practice
- Use the current official outline to prioritize a study plan.
- Review the reason for an error, not just the answer letter.
- Interpret short-form scores without predicting an official exam outcome.
Start with an evidence-based plan
Check the official handbook, eligibility decision, exam window and tested law date before scheduling. P.A.Y. modules are independent supplementary preparation; they are not the named PayrollOrg courses that may form part of an eligibility route. Use more than one appropriate study resource.
Practice in layers
Read a lesson, solve a worked example without looking, then try a short mixed set. Revisit missed concepts after a gap. Adjust the suggested eight-week plan to your experience and available time; the plan is not a promise of readiness after eight weeks.
Classify each miss
Was the error an unknown rule, a missed fact, an arithmetic step, a rounding issue or a time-management decision? Write the corrected reasoning and source. Then solve a new example with changed numbers or facts so that remembering a letter cannot substitute for understanding.
Read the score honestly
There are three extended practice forms, A, B and C, with 85 original questions each. Quick sets A and B reuse the first 28 items from their matching extended form. Use a quick set for a shorter session and an extended form for broader practice. Neither is the official 190-question, four-hour exam. A practice percentage is not an official scaled score, eligibility determination or passing-probability estimate. A repeat attempt on known questions measures something different from a first attempt.
Review before you move on
- Confirm handbook and law basis for your appointment.
- Use an error log with source and next action.
- Review weaker domains before retesting.
- Treat practice results as feedback, not a credential.
