The P.A.Y. Academy / Fictional timecards

The shift changes.
The review follows.

Follow office, warehouse and production timecards through punch corrections, department changes, shift premiums and a weekly overtime review. Compare hours worked with paid leave before sending a training handoff.

Count the time.
Then explain the pay.

Overnight: $2 per worked hour

Start from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m. and finish from 5 a.m. through 6 a.m. Both endpoints count. An overnight shift uses an explicit next-day clock-out date.

Later day: $1 per worked hour

Start from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. and finish from 5 p.m. through 6 p.m. Both conditions must match, and only hourly warehouse or production work qualifies.

PTO is paid time, not worked time

Unworked PTO stays separate from productive minutes. Aggregate actual hours across shifts and departments for the workweek. Include qualifying shift pay in the regular-rate review.

The holiday date changes the handoff.

Use the Academy’s separate holiday-week cases to practice eight-hour holiday benefits, observed Friday or Monday dates, and 1.5× pay for actual holiday work by eligible hourly staff. The salary example reclassifies eight scheduled hours as holiday without adding another eight hours to weekly salary. Unworked holiday benefit hours stay outside worked-hour overtime totals.

These are separate source-scoped practice cases, not a holiday calendar selection in the punch workbench below. Company benefit and premium rules are supplied assumptions; they do not establish a universal holiday-pay entitlement.

Free-account practice

Read the source.
Correct the timecard.

The source packet contains the approved fictional punches. Small variations are intentional: this exercise uses actual minutes, without automatic rounding to a scheduled shift. Only a documented, fully relieved unpaid lunch is deducted.
